For the last three months Carleton students worked together to make some recommendations for Videotelephony, a video production company in Ottawa. The students put together a presentation that I was truly impressed with. In their entrepreneurship class, they learned concepts one could apply to growing companies. The students learned about the video business and the challenges a media company faced. In class they learned how to evaluate us as a company and create a strategy.
As mentioned earlier in blog post Pt 1, during the 3 Month course they were to act as marketing consultants. In their final class, they presented their findings to us. The panel they presented to included their Professor , Videotelephony (Ana and myself) and another company. The presentation began with each of the “consultants” shaking hands with the panel and thanking us for coming out! Like a real meeting!
As the students lined up I noticed something quite delightful. They were all dressed in Videotelephony colours. Here they are looking sharp.
Compare the colours!
It is interesting and eye opening to have someone else examine the inner workings of the company you work for. As a video production company in Ottawa, there is a lot of competition in the space. However, the students were able to look at the company critically and suggest new ideas. As well they pointed out new ways to work in Ottawa with video, media and webcasting and use a “Go Big or Go Home” approach as they called it.
It’s an exciting time and we can’t wait for the host of new projects, ideas and concepts we’ll we working on in the coming weeks! We will be using their suggestions in a new rollout so stay tuned.
If you’d like to be part of the action, give a us call!
Cheers to all the wonderful students, Erin, Rob, Andrew, Matt, Ariel, Rebecca, JP and Nick you all are brilliant!
