Recently Videotelephony had the pleasure of meeting Chris Maley, a remarkable and intelligent person, from the 20/200 project.
This company is focused on developing mobile applications, (think apps on an iPhone for example) and making accessible to everyone. In addition to working to make websites for companies more accessible to all user.
You might be thinking, how are apps, websites and other online mediums inaccessible at the moment?
If you had a vision impairment, a learning disability or even a hearing loss you would experience the world in a completely different way. What person with perfect experiences works fine with the way applications are set up. But not everyone will experience things the same way. Others don’t see the world in same way.
A solution for someone with a vision impairment is having a mobile application on a phone of the floor plan of a store or even a menu. These are examples of what the20/200project can do.
When I met Chris yesterday we talked about the way many stores, applications, and companies are set up. Currently many are not making their products or services user friendly to people with any sort of accessibility needs.
Chris told me that Accessibility First is the way they work.
By making products accessible I learned you will open your market to a entire new range of users as well as expand your customer base. The company is truly going to be essential in changing the landscape in the accessibility space.

Videotelephony can also help with making your videos more accessible by adding captioning or sign language and even other languages!
Below you will find a remarkable video shown to me by a friend, about a boy who found a way to see the world in a different way with his vision impairment!
