On March 3rd I gave my hair away to Pantene Beautiful Lengths.
Hair donation is an amazing feeling. To make a much needed wig for women who are struggling with losing their hair due to cancer treatment is something that anyone who can do, should do! To know a wig will be made out of your hair that’s going to grow back on you anyway is a wonderful thing.
The adjustment is a little difficult but it’s coming along. It’s hard to go from having your hair to keep your neck warm to it not it touching the collarbone. Just imagine losing a whole 10 inches in one hair donation! I am eternally grateful for the help and support provided by those who shot this video with equipment from Prentice Media and Videotelephony Inc. Special thanks to my hair dresser Elena for helping me not look Mowgli-like.
We used three cameras for the shoot: A go pro attached to my hairdresser, an FX1 and beautiful Panasonic GH2! This was something I have been wanting to do for a long time. I thought that by capturing the hair donation I might encourage others to do the same. My hair dresser was a great sport about it wearing a Go pro camera on her chest while cutting me hair, I am sure was not ideal but she did it!
My Carleton University students attended the hair cut as well and they were just wonderful.
As my grows back I know that I’m going to do it again and maybe even capture the madness on video again!
Here is a video of my hair donation, Check it!
